Files sent to a DTF printer need to be ripped before printing. RIP stands for Raster Image Processor, and it converts files with RGB color profiles into CMYK format that the printer can understand.
Can’t I save it directly as CMYK in Photoshop? No, DTF printers require RIP software because they use special inks.
After importing your files, you can resize the graphics and optimize the space on your film. This file is called a “gang sheet.” The RIP software also allows you to calibrate your colors and white underbase settings.
A quick tip for the white underbase setting: It’s a good idea to choke the white underbase slightly to prevent the white ink from peeking out behind the colored inks.
When you send the file to print, most DTF printers will start printing immediately or load the file into the printer’s control software.
