It takes a true passion for photography and a deep wallet to plunk down $20,000 for a digital camera, and if you have both, Mamiya will happily oblige with its newly announced DM40 medium format DSLR camera

As evidenced by the price tag ($19,990 for the digital back, or $21,990 for the camera and 80mm f/2.8 lens), the DM40 fits into Mamiya’s lineup of professional large-sensor DSLRs. What you get in return is a 40 megapixel camera capable of shooting 60 frames per minutes (yes, minute), which makes it

Acrossing the PC, Xbox 360, and Windows Phone 7 on Microsoft Demos Gaming

by: cimaul, Category: Games on: March, 08 2010

Microsoft’s TechEd conference doesn’t typically get a lot of news coverage around here given it’s IT focus, but keynote presenter Eric Rudder was showing off some pretty interesting new Windows phone features which are worthy of note. During his presentation he was able to show off not just a cross platform game that worked across the Xbox 360, PC, and mobile phone, but also how he was able to keep all of his gaming sessions in perfect sync.

Its hard to imagine it will ever be much more than a gimmick when it comes to gaming, but it might have some interesting applications for everyday productivity tools as well. After all, finding a mechanic that works with a gamepad, mouse and keyboard, and even a touch screen is a bit of an unrealistic proposition. And before you ask, no, it won’t play Crysis. One thing is clear; Microsoft is taking

Nvidia GTX 480 vs Radeon 5870, Who The Winner?

by: cimaul, Category: Computer on: March, 07 2010

Nvidia has been pretty tight lipped when it comes to Fermi’s performance numbers, but as the March 26th launch date approaches, a few additional details are starting to leak out. This time it’s a video documenting some early benchmarks, giving us our first real peak at Fermi’s performance. Of course we would be remiss if we didn’t mention that the Heaven benchmark utility demonstrated in the video was administered solely by Nvidia themselves, and as such, the results should be taken with a grain of salt until we’ve had our own opportunity to put it through its paces.

The demo shows the GTX 480 pushing out some pretty impressive frame rates, even besting the ATI 5870 results they claim to have run earlier, but it certainly doesn’t look like as big a margin as we were hoping for. The GTX 480 as you might recall is going to be the companies new high end offering, and

Firefox Addon : FireFTP

by: cimaul, Category: Computer on: March, 04 2010

It doesn’t happen that often, but sometimes, you just need an FTP.  Or, rather, the problem is more like this: You need to access an FTP and you don’t have a suitable software client on-hand for whatever reason.  Sure, you can usually access an FTP via your Web browser, but that just offers the most rudimentary form of functionality (read: downloads only) that you can get.  And that’s even assuming that you can get into the FTP site you’re trying to access–I’ve tested good ol’ Mozilla Firefox on a few FTP sites that definitely work in a software client, yet do absolutely nothing when the ftp.*.* address is typed into a browser.

What do you do?  If you’re a fan of Mozilla Firefox, all you need is but one simple extension to bridge both worlds together.  That’s right–an FTP browser inside your Internet browser, which you can pull up into its own separate tab as if it was a new Web page, even though it’s not.
